                    EXONIANS TOAST THE BARD
Robert BurnsOUR President Mr James Dowie welcomed over 130 members and guests to the Burns’ Night celebrations at Exeter Golf and Country Club on Friday 27 January.
After the traditional haggis with tatties and neeps, Mr Andrew McPherson proposed the toast to ‘The Immortal Memory’.  We were entertained to an amusing speech from Dr Duncan McFadyen, who proposed the toast to ‘The Lassies’, to which Mrs Sheila Scott gave the customary response.  Many thanks to Jim Dowie and Evelyn Goodier for organising the evening and to Richard Giles for keeping us all under control as our toastmaster.  Thanks also to our piper, John Goss-Custard and to Hilda Sterry for organising the raffle. Once the formal part of the evening was over, guests took to the dance floor under the direction of our Dancemasters Liz Hogg and Roger Quartly.  The evening ended in the traditional way with Auld Lange Syne.  For photographs of the evening from Bob Sterry, please click here.
